Lower irrigation costs and better planning on 150 acres

One saved irrigation or one less spraying round, and the sensor has already paid for itself. I have bought five more in recent years - that really says it all.

Almar de Bont, arable farmer - Flevoland, Netherlands
Agurotech Almar de Bont helps save water, time and energy.
Arable farmer Almar de Bont uses Agurotech soil sensors to know exactly when irrigation is really needed. With 12 sensors spread over 150 hectares of onions and potatoes, he continuously monitors soil moisture.
"We have so many hectares that you can't do it without planning," he says. The sensors also take the weather forecast into account, so you can think ahead. This allows you to better plan which plots have priority. That saves a lot of stress."
On four onion plots (18 hectares), the measurements showed he could skip a round of irrigation, good for a savings of about €2,700 in water, fuel and labor. Monitoring costs him about €13 per hectare per year, so one round saved already covers the investment.
Results
€2,700 saved on four onion plots (18 hectares)
By skipping one round of irrigation, Almar saved fuel, water and labor, while maintaining crop quality.
€150 additional profit per ha at €13 monitoring cost
The savings and increased efficiency translate directly into higher profit expectations.
Smarter watering
The sensors show exactly when irrigation is really needed - and when it is not.
